The theme for World Metrology Day 2020 is: Measurements for global trade.
Especially due to globalization, it is extremely important for worldwide trade to have a uniform basis for the dimensioning of all products. This also applies to compliance with product regulations and to ensuring conformity. Only the reference to an internationally valid standard enables defined product quality, which is important for every customer.
Of course, this is used also to calculate freight costs based on weight or volume.
Precise and reproducible measurements are particularly important in international trade with natural gas. For the most accurate billing of end customers for small gas quantities (diaphragm gas meters) or larger and large gas quantities in industry (rotary piston gas meters, turbine wheel gas meters and ultrasonic gas meters) and of course for billing in international natural gas pipelines. (high-pressure closed loop).
And of course, the meters used must be checked again and again and recalibrated if necessary.
The World Metrology Day project is realized jointly by the BIPM (Bureau International des Poids et Mesures), the International Bureau of Weights and Measures and the OIML (Organisation Internationale de Métrologie Légale), the International Organisation of Legal Metrology
