The real cost of a calibration system is not the purchase price.
A lower initial investment can become expensive when accuracy drops, downtime increases, spare parts are unavailable or production has to stop.

Single- and three-phase test benches, reference instruments and amplifiers to IEC and ANSI – ZERA technology – inotech has been part of the ZERA Group since 2026.
Since 1992 inotech has developed and manufactured test and calibration systems for gas, water, heat and electricity meters – from the atmospheric nozzle test rig to the closed-loop high-pressure system for natural gas and hydrogen.
Engineering, design, software and manufacturing are all in-house. inotech Germany GmbH in Bietigheim and inotech Spain Meter Calibration Systems S.L. in Barcelona work together as equal inotech sites – gas, water and heat in Germany, electricity in Spain. The merger with ZERA brought electricity meter calibration technology into the group in 2026, so inotech now covers all four energy types.
About inotech →From year 7 onwards the purchase price puts itself into perspective: what costs more today saves many times its value over the system’s lifetime in downtime, recalibration and replacement.
Send us meter types, flow ranges, test positions and the required degree of automation – we will propose a suitable configuration.
An inotech meter test system is built for exactly the test task your operation faces every day. Since October 1992 we have been developing test and calibration systems for utility meters in Bietigheim (Baden), with which manufacturers, laboratories and utilities reliably calibrate their meters. More than 1,000 of these systems are in operation today in over 70 countries.
Why is the breadth of our range an advantage for you? You can test domestic, commercial and industrial gas meters on our systems just as well as apartment, domestic and bulk water meters or heat meters. One supplier, one software and one service channel reduce your effort for training and maintenance. Whether you need a meter test system for natural gas, compressed air or cold water only changes the configuration, not your contact person.
Compliance with standards is the starting point of every design. Depending on the meter type, our meter test systems take OIML, MID or DIN EN 1434-5 into account and meet the requirements of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB). The individual lines include, among others, the gas meter test system and the heat meter test system.
Proven basic configurations form the basis from which we tailor each system to the device under test, throughput and premises. This keeps the meter test system predictable without the test task having to adapt to the machine. Hardware and software come from a modular system. If your device under test has special connections or its own protocol, our design and software departments develop the matching adapters and interfaces. Because process control runs on the PLC and our Meter Calibration Software only handles visualisation and parameterisation, the Windows PC can be replaced later without any changes to the control system.
Before manufacturing begins, you receive a design drawing from 3D CAD for approval. Change requests can still be incorporated at this stage with little effort. A designated project manager accompanies your project from start to order completion and coordinates with our specialist departments. As soon as the system has been assembled and tested, commissioning follows on site at your premises. We guarantee ten years of spare parts supply for every system. If you would like to continue using an existing meter test system, we modernise the mechanics, PC generation and software. In this way we also renew control systems and software on systems from other manufacturers.
Meter manufacturers operate a meter test system as a production machine that has to run reliably in multi-shift operation. Almost all meter manufacturers based in Europe use our test systems for domestic gas meters. Serial test benches with automatic clamping offer up to 24 test positions there, with critical nozzles as standards setting the flow rate without control time.
This results in a simple economic relationship. Every minute in which a meter test system is not waiting for control processes is available for further devices under test. The BPA7-2-5 model for domestic water meters works with two test lines, so that testing takes place on one while meters are being changed on the other. For the drive piston, we guarantee more than 500,000 cycles under normal operating conditions and with qualified maintenance by us.
To ensure that faulty measuring units or sensors never reach final assembly, dedicated test benches for these components complement the line. Where pulses used to be scanned optically, our CAMINO camera system recognises the digits of the last register roller, shortening set-up and positioning times. Talk to us if a new meter test bench is to be integrated into your existing production. Connection to your communication protocol is part of it. For smart meters we maintain a software library that covers almost all commercially available models.
For municipal utilities and energy suppliers, what matters most is how long the installed meters may remain in the network. Sample testing makes it possible to extend the verification period. This postpones the investment in new meters by several years. Why is a dedicated system worthwhile for this? With your own meter test system you carry out these tests in-house and set the dates yourself.
Typical for utilities are medium quantities with a wide variety of types. The portable RAC-T5 test bench complements the stationary laboratory with testing directly in the network: domestic water meters in DN15 and DN20 can be tested on site without removing them. To keep the results reliable, all measuring instruments and sensors used in our systems can be calibrated regularly. Which meter test system suits your meter fleet is something we clarify together on the basis of your meter types and quantities.
Our calibration laboratory is accredited by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) under registration number D-K-23505-01-00. Within the published scope we calibrate there according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 and document the measurement uncertainty of every result.
On request, we deliver new gas meter test systems with a calibration according to 17025 straight away. Your meter test system thus goes into operation with a traceable calibration certificate, issued by the same partner who developed it. We will be happy to discuss with you directly which calibrations our calibration laboratory offers for gas meters in detail.
If you would initially only like to have an existing system recalibrated, that is also a good starting point. Describe your test task to us, whether a new meter test system, modernisation or calibration. Our sales team will use it to prepare a free quotation that specifically names the configuration, standards and service modules.
